My son is in the eighth grade and is having a hard time in math. These are the areas they are currently working on: Rational Numbers (7.NS): needs to be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide integers, fractions, and decimals Expressions and Equations (7.EE & 8.EE): needs to be able to solve one and two step equations with grouping symbols, fractions, and variables on both sides with solutions that include all real numbers and no solution. Linear Equations (8.EE and 8.F): needs to be able to graph a line from an equation given in slope-intercept form or standard form or from a word problem. Needs to be able to interpret slope and y-intercept in the context of a given situation. This week we are currently solving equations with variables on both sides. It is common core math standards 8.EE.C.7.a and b. Next week we will begin solving simultaneous systems of linear equations (with two variables) using graphing, substitution, and elimination. It is common core state standards 8.EE.C.8a, b, and c.
